The Centre will enable the University and the College to work more closely together, creating an expanding range of higher education opportunities for learners in Walsall.
Staff from both institutions will collaborate to share expertise, raise aspirations, and provide meaningful pathways for academic progression.
A new scholarship will support a Walsall College student progressing to the University of Worcester, recognising hard work and sustained academic improvement.
The partnership was announced at an event this week which saw staff and governors of both institutions sharing their aspirations for the future, discussing opportunities to expand access to higher education and celebrating the positive impact the collaboration will have on learners and the wider community.
Jatinder Sharma CBE DL, Principal and Chief Executive of Walsall College, said: “The presence of a University Centre at Walsall College will be a unique and inspiring reminder that higher education is for everyone, while encouraging broader thinking about degree-level study and the diverse career options it can lead to.”
Mr Sharma added: “We will also be in a better position to highlight clear progression routes and career goals tailored to our students’ skills and aspirations while raising awareness of the affordability of higher education and financial support available, and the high-quality teaching and learning available through both institutions.”
Professor David Green CBE DL, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Worcester, said: “The University of Worcester and Walsall College have enjoyed a strong and successful partnership for many years. The creation of this University Centre marks an exciting new chapter, bringing high-quality higher education opportunities even closer to the heart of Walsall. It will open doors for local people to gain the skills and knowledge they need to flourish in today’s rapidly changing world.”
Professor Green added: “The University of Worcester is ranked as the best in the country for sustained graduate employment, according to the Government’s Longitudinal Education Outcomes data. Combined with Walsall College’s outstanding reputation for excellence and innovation, this partnership will create unparalleled opportunities for students, helping them progress from college to university and into rewarding careers.”
